With the arrival of a new generation of moviemakers, Nepali cinema is reaching new heights and the dimensions getting broader each year. 2017 brought some of the greatest hits of all time and now the coming year looks equally promising for the Nepali film industry. Here are some of the movies that are soon to be released:


1. Romeo and Muna

Starring Vinay Shrestha and Shristi Shrestha, the film is about a womanizer and a simple village girl, who eventually falls in love. It dwells on a tussle between the two. The movie has been shot in various exotic locations in and outside the country. It’s first video song, an item number— ‘Dance Ma Ek Number’ featuring Shristi Shrestha, Menuka Pradhan, Sushma Karki, Basundhara Bhusal has already created a big hype. The movie is scheduled to be released on 14th February 2018.

2. Sunkesari
Sunkesari, starring Richa Sharma and Rabindra Jha targets an audience that loves horror/thriller movies. The story revolves around a haunted hotel, where the guests witness various paranormal activities.  The entire movie was shot in Australia and will be featuring debutant actors Sunny Dhakal and Lauren Loftberg. “There are very few Nepali movies in the horror genre, so I hope people will appreciate the effort. I am really looking forward to seeing the audience getting scared and entertained,” says Richa Sharma, adding that the movie will be releasing around April-May 2018.

3.Intu Mintu London Ma
Choreographer Renasha Rai’s first project as a director, Intu Mintu London Ma features Samragyee RL Shah, Dhiraj Magar, Bibek Limbu, Saruk Tamrakar and Sunisha Bajgai in lead roles. The story revolves around two individuals: Ishan (Intu) and Meera (Mintu) struggling to walk the fine line between tradition and modernity. Their fate is determined by the difficult choices that they have to make. Renasha Rai informs that although the shoot in Nepal has been completed, they are yet to film in the UK. The movie is expected to hit the screens in mid 2018.

Kri is one of the most awaited movies that are coming out in 2018. The credit goes to the lead actor Anmol KC and his new action avatar. Also featured next to the heartthrob will be model Aditi Budhathoki, who is stepping into the Nepali film world for the very first time. The story is based on life in the British Gurkha Army. Although the date of its release is yet to be confirmed, Director Surrendra Poudel expects it to be out around Tihar 2018.

5. A Man from Kathmandu
Nakkim Uddin’s venture— A man from Kathmandu has definitely garnered a lot of attention and why shouldn’t it?  The movie is being directed by US based Nepali director Pema Dhondup and features some of the biggest names worldwide. Bollywood’s famous villain Gulshan Grover is the antagonist portraying the character of Abu Mia while the male protagonist is US based action choreographer Jose Manuel who takes on the role of Faisal Mustafa. Another well-known actor who has been roped in is Hameed Sheikh who plays Pundit Harswardan and Nepal’s favorite rising star—Anna Sharma will be playing the role of Namrata Manshree. No release date has been announced.
