Popularly known as ‘Laure’, Ashish Rana is a Nepali rapper, actor and one of the judges of the reality TV show Himalaya Roadies which kicked off last year. From his first song, ‘Mero Solta’ to playing a lead role in a movie and now as the judge of a TV show, Laure has come a long way.  Ashish delves into his fashion secrets and provides Living some tips related to fashion.

What is fashion to you?

For me, fashion is anything that makes me comfortable. Nowadays, you can see people wearing clothes based on different themes but for me even a simple cloth becomes stylish if that provides me confidence and keeps me in my comfort zone.

Describe your personal style in three words.

Sporty, comfortable and unspotted.

What is the difference between your go-to-style choice for Roadies and day-to-day events?

In Roadies, we are required to wear clothes on the basis of the theme. For instance, in season one, the focus was on leather and denim wears while now it’s more of a floral wear. I feel that even for the events outside Roadies, my attire is more or less the same because at Roadies also comfort is given priority.

What would we find in excess in your wardrobe?

It will be shoes. I have more than thirty pairs of shoes which are mostly sneakers rather than just leather shoes.

Which are some of your favorite places to shop?

I prefer to buy my clothes abroad. However, if I have to mention a name here in Nepal, it will be Mfashionista as I have worked with them earlier as well as for our Roadies outfit. You can find unique collections in Mfashionista and me being a rapper, I also find a good collection of hip-hop wear there.

One style item you would never wear?

Well, that style item is something I feel I couldn’t ever afford. It’s the diamond set worn by my icon Floyd Mayweather, which would even seem to be kind of showing off in Nepal.

Three men with an exceptional sense of style.

Floyd Mayweather who is a boxer as well as a motivational speaker, DJ Khaled and Chris Brown.

Top five essentials every man should have in his wardrobe.

  • Perfume
  • Shoes
  • Good watches
  • Cap
  • Belt

How do you accessorize your look?

I always try to keep my look as simple as possible. When people see you, they should not feel that you are showing off. But, I do make sure that I wear my clothes in a unique way. I accessorize my look with a pair of shades available in funky shape and size.

A grooming product always available in your cabinet.

I’m not that conscious regarding this. However, I simply use Gatsby products to style my hair and sometimes hair wax during my concerts.

Who would you want to swap your wardrobe with?

It would surely be with the international rappers out there who have a really cool dress sense.

A favorite color that is prominent in your wardrobe.

I usually prefer white or else dark colors. One will mostly notice me in three colors: Black, white and purple.

Most experimental outfit you have worn?

It was for one of my music albums which didn’t get released. I acted as ‘Lakhey’ in that video where I wore a mask with a long frock from my neck along with red trousers. That was quite weird. (laughs)

Your preferred brands?

I prefer Jordan for my shoes. Others will be Nike and Louis Vuitton.

Two things women find irresistible in men.

I personally feel that women give first priority to men’s shoes because it’s something that describes your entire outfit. I recently watched a video where women were asked the same thing and about 90% of them said, ‘shoes’. Next thing I feel are the accessories may be your watches or your neck piece.

Whom do you give credit to in helping you discover your own style?

When I was a teenager, I used to get inspired by Eminem. Lately, Mayweather is the one who inspires me in every outfit I wear.
